Hog Rock Bar-B-Q: Savor the Best Barbecue in Wetumpka, AL

I was in the neighborhood, starving, and trying to behave myself on a low carb kick. Barbecue is usually a safe haven for that lifestyle. Meat good. Bread optional. But let’s be honest, BBQ can either change your life or make you question your decisions. Thankfully, Hog Rock was the life changing kind. The second I walked in, I got that small town “we’ve known you since you were knee high to a grasshopper” welcome. Big smiles. Friendly vibe. The kind of place where you feel like if you needed help moving a couch, three people would volunteer before you finished asking. I ordered the rib plate and let me tell you… those ribs did not require a knife. They did not require a strategy. They barely required teeth. Fall off the bone? More like gently slide off the bone and into happiness. Perfect smoke ring, deep flavor, and sauce that makes you consider licking your fingers in public without shame. The place was packed, which is always a strong sign that something magical is happening in the kitchen. And even with a full house, the food came out fast. Not rushed. Just efficient. Like a well rehearsed barbecue ballet. Collard greens? Legit. Not the sad, watery kind. The good kind. The kind that makes you nod quietly in approval. The coleslaw was fresh and balanced, not drowning in mystery mayo. And the best part? The price. I walked out full, satisfied, and not feeling like I needed to refinance the house. If you’re hungry, low carb, high carb, or no carb, this place will take care of you. Easy on your wallet. Easy on your soul. Hard on your willpower to not order seconds.

I have eaten here 4 times and all four times it has been good. I have eaten the BBQ 3 times and meat and vegetables once. The BBQ plate is large and plenty to eat. I recommend the Macn cheese as a side. Also I would get the sauce on the side since they put way too much sauce on the meat. It overpowers the meat taste. The meatloaf was really good.

BBQ Chef Salads for 3 today! Two with extra meat and extra eggs, one with extra onion, one with regular meat, extra egg and extra pickles. So far, we have not been let down. The salads are always great and the best thing is that when we cannot eat them all at one setting, they are generally just as awesome as leftovers the next day. Granted, the inside of the restaurant is a little dated, it is still a great place for salads. Oh, and the corn nuggets are deep fried to perfection. Always have to get the corn nuggets as a side with the salads. Thanks for the great salads!!! You definitely outdid the other bbq place in town that no longer has dine-in. We switched to your salads a couple of years ago and they are definitely our occasional treat! 11/22/2025 BBQ Chef salads again today for 3! Again, the best salads this side of heaven!!! We tried this place for the first time. My husband enjoyed the ribs, I liked the chicken. The pulled pork was not my favorite, however. Super sweet people! Cute local atmosphere!

If you don't feel like cooking, but still want a yummy homemade meal, this is the place to go! I'm in love with their meat and three options, and it has saved me on many busy week nights. Super affordable also, basically $11 for a meal, you still have leftovers, and a drink. Love the old country feel atmosphere also. Service has always been friendly. My favorite place in Wetumpka for delicious and affordable food.

We are visiting from PA and we hit bbq places for the past week and this place has an awesome , affordable food. we enjoy the food and the service was so good..

Place was packed I understand why . BBQ plate was great potato salad was ok really liked the slaw , wife’s sandwich was good , granddaughter loves her chicken tenders. Sauce was a little sweet for my taste but absolutely nothing wrong with it. Service was good as well. Definitely recommend.
